Private Outing PlanAccessible day trips, from Arakawa, Tokyo

The place you want to see is still within reach.

Elytra is more than a ride between two points. A wheelchair-accessible van picks you up from where you're staying, and an occupational therapist stays with you once you reach your destination — so a wheelchair, or a little less stamina than you used to have, doesn't get to decide where your day in Japan ends.

ConceptWhy we do this

Beyond “I want to go”
is where you get your energy back.

“I want to see the sea.” “I want to get to the places on my list.” “I want to go out to lunch with everyone.” Behind a wish like that is a moment when the body and the heart quietly start moving again.

Elytra is an accessible taxi service built around that moment: a wheelchair-accessible van, plus on-site support from a rehabilitation professional — one made-to-measure outing, from wherever you're staying and back again.

We don't simply move you from A to B. A specialist thinks through how you will move once you arrive. That is why people so often come back at the end of a day out able to do a little more than when they set off.

  • “I want to see the cherry blossoms up close.”
  • “Could we make it to a hot spring town?”
  • “I want to eat out, not at the hotel.”
  • “I don't want to be the one left behind.”

…and so on. Whatever your “I want to go” sounds like, tell us — ideally before you travel.

We make the whole wish happen

Not just a ride from A to B.
Hands-on support, with rehabilitation in mind.

An occupational therapist (OT) and other specialists support the way you move once you are there.

ServiceTwo ways to use it

On your own, or with everyone.
An outing shaped around you.

One to One

One-to-one outings

  • “I want to walk part of the garden myself!”
  • “I want to do water walking in a pool!”

A specialist stays with you one to one, working from your own goals and from how your body is on the day. Good for an outing that doubles as everyday rehabilitation, or for a trip to the sports centre with someone alongside.

* Please talk through the support you'll need with us in detail beforehand.

Group

Group outings

  • “We want to go shopping and out to lunch.”
  • “We want to ride a rickshaw together!”

Head out with friends or family. Sharing the van keeps the cost down, and places that felt out of reach on your own become a good deal easier to get to together.

* Up to 6 passengers. A care worker rides along depending on the level of assistance needed.

EffectsWhat an occupational therapist adds

Move the heart, the body follows.
Move the body, the heart follows.

Real-world rehabilitation

Stepping out of the therapy room and moving in a real place. The kind of stimulation you never get on a training mat moves the body and the mind at the same time.

A nudge for mind and memory

Somewhere new, or somewhere familiar revisited, gives the brain something to work with. And “I'd like to go again” becomes the reason for the next step.

Fitting the place and the gear

Wheelchair seating, the right equipment, a setting that works — we coordinate the outing itself, so you can set off without worrying.

How it worksFrom first message to the day itself

It starts with two words:
“let's go.”

  1. 01

    Get in touch

Email us in English. “We'd just like to get out somewhere” is a perfectly good place to start — and if you're travelling to Japan, please write well ahead of your travel dates. Our phone line and the application form are in Japanese.

  2. 02

    Quote and agreement

We listen to what you have in mind, then come back with a plan and a quote. Where it helps, we can meet you beforehand to check how you're doing and what the setting will need.

  3. 03

    The day, and payment

We pick you up in a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. On site, a specialist supports you with rehabilitation in mind. Payment is settled after the outing.

ContactGet in touch

“A few of us would like to get out
somewhere.” That's enough to start.

You don't need a finished plan. Write to us in English by email — roughly what you'd like to do, and roughly when, is plenty to start with.

There is also an application form

Open the booking form

The form is in Japanese and opens in a new tab. In English, just email us instead and we'll handle the rest.

Whichever way you get in touch, you may end up telling us about your condition. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle it.

Nothing decided yet? That's fine — “a few of us want to get out somewhere” is a great place to begin. Just ask ♪
